iFLEX Viper laser engine for innovative benchtop cytometer
Super-charging next generation designs
Extending the boundaries of hyperspectral flow cytometry for microbiology is their pursuit; the development of an innovative benchtop cytometer, their stated goal: With the high-performance iFLEX Viper lasers from Qioptic, a team of French and American research scientists have achieved ground-breaking results.
The results confirm the capabilities of this new benchtop instrument for multi-parametric analysis at the single cell level. This means future improvements in instrumentation for high throughput and high resolution screening are within reach! And thanks to the success of this pioneering work, Qioptiq has been invited to demonstrate the iFLEX Viper at the 5th International Conference on Analysis of Microbial Cells at the Single Cell Level, to be held in Carry-Le-Rouet, France.
Dr. Gérald Grégori of PRECYM, at the Oceanographic Center of Marseille in France, worked with a team from the Bindley Bioscience Center, Purdue University, USA to develop a new bench top cytometer capable of collecting multispectral data from 32 fluorescence channels simultaneously.
Unlimited testing
Using the iFLEX Viper multi-laser engine Dr. Grégori was able to fire lasers with five different wavelengths (405 nm, 445 nm, 488 nm, 561 nm and 640 nm), simultaneously and sequentially, directly into the existing red laser pathway of a standard dual-laser cytometer. The output beams from all five lasers in the iFLEX Viper were delivered collinearly by a polarization-maintaining single-mode fiber, to facilitate the connection to the existing flow cytometer. Simultaneous emission of all lines, power adjustment and fast switching between wavelengths are controlled over a USB port, enabling optimum test procedures.
